Erie Cathedral, located in Cambridge, was founded 670 years ago and has undergone multiple restorations to achieve its present appearance. Among all the churches I have visited, it left the deepest impression on me. When light enters the cathedral through the window-paned glass roof, it reflects strange light through the vault, creating a sensation as if being inside a giant kaleidoscope, evoking a feeling beyond time and space. The details of the arch structure and centuries-old aesthetics are clearly revealed, like a revelation from both ancient and future times. The timeless beauty of glass, vaults, metal, and intricate classical decor inspires new designs.
As shown in the floor plan of the product, the design concept originated from the cut of the arch. This pattern merges influences from church architecture and its derivatives, attempting to explore the connection between the classical and the modern. Stainless steel is used to fold it into an extremely long, tension-filled cone. The glass, with its textured material, is exquisitely cut and fixed onto the stainless steel frame. The intentionally exposed lamp holder, screws, and wires are directly attached to the glass, creating a sense of delicate yet violent conflict.
